If you have an overactive imagination and are sufficiently interested, have a look at Video 5 from yesterday – time (around 10:16) for the moment when Alastair Cook was set free. Until then, in his short batting stint, the look on his face was that of someone who’d just woken up at 3:00 AM and found 14 year-old Linda Blair vomiting pins and needles by his side. But at that particular moment, he seemed to look at the giant screen, notice himself the focus of all attention and the nightmarish expression changed to a “_____ off” look.
At that moment, I kind of hoped he’d get some runs. Maybe not this many, but some. Just for that expression-change.
Still reeling though, hours later, from the horrifying thought of having enjoyed an Alastair Cook knock.
In an ideal world, he’d be given a huge pat on his back, asked to provide one last demonstration of his fairly unique slog-sweep to left-arm spin and then given an early retirement cheque. But that’s not going to happen. And somehow, it’s ok.
